The Food Processor

About this Blog

I had a lot of anxiety about starting this blog.

Originally, I wanted to create a restaurant database for Greensboro. Information about Greensboro restaurants is very scarce on the World Wide Web. It took me two years to discover some of my now-favorite restaurants and I wanted to speed up the process for other newcomers. The only problem is that I don’t eat out often enough (nor do I want to) to create a comprehensive database of restaurant reviews in a reasonable amount of time.

But I still wanted a food blog.

I considered the questions Who cares what I’m eating? and What makes this different from other food blogs? and What if people think I’m trying to replicate the Julie/Julia project to get a book deal? and What if no one reads it? Sometimes I think the answers to these questions matter and sometimes I don’t. I decided to launch the blog anyway. To keep myself going, regardless of doubts and anxiety, I made a rule to post one thing that I’ve eaten for each day without judgment. It could be Doritos or Chick-Fil-A. It could be smoked ribs or sushi.

I officially launched the blog on July 25, 2009.

I eat the same things I did before, but now I garnish them and take lots of pictures. I can make a meal out of the egg noodles that have been sitting in the back of my pantry for a year and the produce that came from the farmers market a week and a half ago. I am getting good at knowing how much salt to put in tomato soup. I am perfecting reading a menu and knowing the right thing to order for the kind of restaurant I’m in. This is what I hope to pass on to you. Eating and cooking are social things and the blog extends the reach of my meals.

This is the thing that I most want you to teach me.
